Vicksburg High School made an astonishing comeback to defeat Terry High School 26-20 on Friday.

Late in the first quarter, the Gators capped off a 99-yard drive with a combination of Malik Montgomery and Ronnie Alexander running the football. Alexander was able to find Tyler Henderson for a 15 yard touchdown pass to go up 6-0.

Terry responded with 75 yard kick return to give the Bulldogs a 7-6 win.

DeCorey Knight Jr. picked up 27 yards on a kick return but a fumble by Colin Johnson would give Terry a chance to score. The Bulldogs plowed their way down the field and scored from a 10 yard pass to go up 14-6 in the second quarter.

Before halftime VHS had some big plays, including a 16-yard run by Alexander and a 19-yard run from Knight but the Gators would still be down 14-6 at the half.

Coming out of halftime, Terry picked up a 39 yard run by the quarterback just shortly before Dennis Battle came up with a big sack. The Bulldogs scored again from 34 yards out with nice catch over two defenders as they went up 20-6.

It didn’t take VHS long to respond when Henderson caught a 65-yard touchdown pass. Knight scored the two point conversion. Blackmore tied the game at 20-20 just a few minutes later from an eight yard run.

Late in the fourth, KJ Hill and Demarcus Johnson came up with some big stops. The game took another successful turn for VHS when they punted the ball and Terry dropped it which led to the Gators recovering and earning great field position. A few plays later Blackmore rushed for another touchdown with 46 seconds left.

Mincer Minor IV and Rickey Ross both caught interceptions in the win.

VHS improved to 3-1 on the year under Head Coach Christopher Lacey.

VDN reached out to Coach Lacey for a comment but we received no response.

The Gators will host Yazoo City on Friday.
