A suspect that led law enforcement on a multi-county car chase Friday briefly escaped custody and was recaptured.

Officers with the Warren County Sheriff’s Office and the Vicksburg Police Department were involved in a car chase Friday morning that began in Jackson.

Jackson Police officers attempted to pull over the vehicle in Jackson’s Queens community. The driver failed to yield and led police to Interstate 20 where he proceeded west toward Warren County.

Warren County Sheriff’s deputies joined the chase when the entourage approached the Highway 61 exit near Vicksburg.

At Clay Street in Vicksburg, the suspect doubled back to re-enter the interstate going east. At that point, Vicksburg Police officers joined the chase.

The chase, which reportedly never exceeded about 60 mph, ended in a crash just east of the Highway 61 interchange.

The suspect, who refused to provide his name or any identification, escaped custody from a Jackson Police car after police detained him and was recaptured again by Warren County deputies on Cockrell Drive off U.S. Highway 80 in a home under construction.

He is now in custody in Warren County on charges of felony eluding. Warren County will return the suspect to Jackson Police after processing him at some point, Sheriff Pace said. His identity is still unknown to authorities.

A female passenger from the vehicle is also in custody.

This is a developing story. The Vicksburg Daily News will update this story as we get more information.
