Vicksburg apartment residents getting resolution on sewage issue

An apartment complex at 821 Speed Street in Vicksburg has been experiencing sewage issues for months.
Raw sewage appears to be leaking from under the building and spilling out into the parking lot.
On Tuesday, the Vicksburg Daily News contacted North Ward Alderman Michael Mayfield and Vicksburg’s Director of Public Works Garnett Van Norman to get their comments on the situation.
Mayfield quickly came out to the property to see the problem for himself, and then called out Solid Waste Enforcement Officer Edward D. Miller.
“This don’t make no sense,” Mayfield said. “I’ll work with anyone to solve a problem, but this has been going on for a while.”
Because the break is on the property side of the water meter, the break is the responsibility of the property owner to repair; however, residents say nothing has been done since December when the break was first noticed.
The property is owned by a limited liability corporation named BAD Properties. Warren County tax rolls have the company located at 3150 South Frontage Road in Vicksburg. The Secretary of State’s website lists Donald G. Beard as the company’s registered agent and manager, and 407 Warren Street in Vicksburg as its principal office address. Beard is also the owner of Flower Center Nursery on South Frontage Road.
While VDN reporters were on scene, Piazza Plumbing arrived to inspect the situation. The workers said they received a work order a week ago, but it has taken them this long to get to it.
