Get ready to listen to some great music and enjoy your favorite Southern cooking on Sunday morning.

Oct. 13 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Vicksburg Blues Society is partnering with the Biscuit Company (610 Grove St.) to host a gospel brunch.

“The Vicksburg Blues Society has a grant to do a series of blues, jazz and gospel at the Biscuit Company,” said Shirley Waring of the Vicksburg Blues Society. “Every second Sunday there will be gospel, and jazz every third Sunday for brunch. This one will be featuring Calvin Duncan, Jr. who’s from Eudora, Ark., and has roots in Tupelo as well.”

Duncan was a competitor in the Sept. 29 Vicksburg Blues Society’s Blues Challenge at Ameristar Casino. “He’s an exceptional performer, ” Waring said.

This event is a welcome addition to activities that demonstrate what makes Mississippi unique. Oct. 27 is a champagne jazz brunch featuring Bill Perry.

The series “focuses on our heritage music series or music that’s been made famous and really originated in the Mississippi Delta,” Waring said. “The grant allows us to offer that gospel, blues and jazz music to the public, and the Biscuit Company offers a brunch buffet to accompany the music.”

Cost for the brunch is $18 for adults and $8 for children 4 to 12. Children 3 and under get in free.

For more information, contact the Vicksburg Blues Society at 601-634-6179, or visit the event Facebook page.

“It’s just a great thing to showcase live music in Vicksburg of good caliber,” Waring said.
