Vicksburg Board of Mayor and Alderman honors Martha Thomas
On Tuesday, Vicksburg’s Board of Mayor and Alderman (BOMA) honored Martha Thomas for her community work and passion.
A well-known advocate for the less fortunate in Vicksburg, Thomas is known for hosting the Stop the Violence and Mental Illness Rally which celebrated its ninth event last April. The event offers the community a chance to hear guest speakers and other artists speak and perform on combating violence and mental illness.
Thomas also runs Momma’s Hope with her group of supporters in honor of her late mother who instilled the value of service in Thomas at a young age, shown by her own notable service in Vicksburg. Momma’s Hope provides meals to the disadvantaged during high-need times such as Thanksgiving.
“The thing that gets me the most about this phenomenal woman is her passion and drive for what she’s doing,” said Mayor George Flaggs Jr.
The Board of Mayor and Alderman then bestowed Thomas with a special plaque and flowers as thanks for her ongoing service and love for the community. The plaque reads, “Thank you for educating and inspiring the City of Vicksburg.”
The board further honored Martha Thomas’ group of helpers who were in attendance. Amy Searle briefly gave her own story of overcoming drug addiction and coming full circle to helping others. Searle called Thomas and her organization a blessing in her life.
“If everybody cared as much about their community like this lady, where would the world be?,” concluded Flaggs.
