The Vicksburg Chamber Choir will present its annual Holiday Concert on Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2022, at 7 p.m. at the Church of the Holy Trinity. This year’s concert is a selection of familiar, traditional Christmas music, with a new twist.

Choir Director, Christie Beasley, said they would perform their trademark piece, Still, Still, Still, a Vicksburg favorite, in German. This piece is an Austrian Christmas carol and lullaby. The melody is a folk tune from the district of Salzburg. The tune appeared for the first time in 1865 in a folksong collection of Vinzenz Maria Suss (1802-1868), founder of the Salzburg Museum. The words describe the peace of the infant Jesus and his mother as the baby is sung to sleep. The lyrics have changed slightly over the years, but the modern standard German version remains attributed to Georg Gotsch. Many Chamber Choir members chimed in and said Christmas isn’t Christmas without the choir singing Still, Still, Still.

Other favorites to be performed by the choir include I Saw Three Ships Come Sailing In and Sussex Carol, both familiar tunes with a few interesting turns.

The Chamber Choir experienced renewed interest in the last year with an increase in membership, including some younger singers from various backgrounds. All singers are welcome to join the choir. After a short holiday break, the choir will resume rehearsals in preparation for their Spring Concert.

The concert is free and open to the public; however, donations are accepted.
