As case numbers continue to rise, Vicksburg and Warren County residents are becoming increasingly concerned with the shortage of COVID-19 vaccines and the lack of vaccination sites in our county.

As a result of the efforts of Mayor George Flaggs Jr., the Warren County Board of Supervisors, Emergency Management Director John Elfer and others, at least two vaccination sites are to be established in Vicksburg.

Flaggs says that he spoke Saturday with State Health Officer Dr. Thomas Dobbs in regards to public vaccination sites in Warren County. Dobbs will announce the details of the vaccination sites Monday.

In a news release from Warren County Emergency Management last week, Pemberton Mall was mentioned as a possible site location. Mission Primary Care and Medical Associates of Vicksburg have also applied to administer the vaccine when supplies are made available.

Mississippi has struggled to meet the demand for vaccines, but Friday the Mississippi State Department of Health announced that additional COVID-19 vaccine was allocated to Mississippi.

Persons 65 and older and those 1864 with underlying medical conditions along with health care providers and first responders can schedule appointments for current state sites on the UMC website.
