The Vicksburg Fire Department undertook a water rescue this morning.

Two employees of the city’s Water and Gas Department became trapped by high water on Long Lake Road as they attempted to service a well.

Neither employee is injured or in danger.

The fire department has deployed a boat to rescue the workers.

The best way to avoid becoming trapped by high water is not to drive into standing water on the roads. With the recent heavy rains and more on the way this weekend, it’s more important than ever to heed the warning: Turn around; Don’t drown.

Even shallow water can hold debris and other dangers not visible from the surface, and in many cases, it may be safer to stay in your vehicle instead of stepping into the water. In the event you find yourself trapped, do not hesitate to call 911 to be rescued.
