Vicksburg Fred’s locks its doors

At 4 p.m. sharp, 14- year general manager Barry Bingham locked the doors at Fred’s SuperCenter in Vicksburg.

Fred’s in Vicksburg has closed.

Bingham said employees will spend the remainder of the day boxing up inventory. The store was all but empty when VicksburgĀ  Daily News passed through.

Roses Discount Stores are expected to take over the facility in the upcoming months, but no agreement or opening date has been announced.

Fred’s has announced numerous low-performing store closures nationwide in the last several months. The 313 announced store closings represent 56 percent of its total stores, with 244 locations remaining. Sixty-six Mississippi stores are on the discount chain’s closure list.
