Vicksburg Gators win against Warren Central Vikings 47-43

The Vicksburg High varsity men’s basketball team defeated the Warren Central Vikings today in a heated rivalry.

The Gators (7-3), led by coach Kevin Carter, took the lead at the beginning of the game. Taylon Smith knocked down two big three-pointers for the Gators in the first quarter, helping Vicksburg gain a 16-7 lead by the end of the first quarter.

The Vikings’ Daniel Smothers also knocked down a big three-pointer before the quarter ended. Smothers would finish the game with 9 points.

The Vikings (6-4) played hard defense on the Gators by only allowing Vicksburg to score six points in the second quarter, while Warren Central scored nine to end the half with a 24-16 Gator lead.

By the fourth quarter, Taylon Smith took over the game again for the Gators by dropping seven points in the quarter. Smith ended the game with 14 points.

The Vikings attempted to make a comeback in the last few minutes but Vicksburg hit most of their free throws which secured the victory.

The Gators went on to win 47-43 against their cross town rivals. They will travel to Raymond next week, while the Vikings will remain at home against Brandon.
