Vicksburg High School basketball star Malik Franklin signs to play at Jones Community College

Vicksburg High School basketball player Malik Franklin has signed to play at Jones Community College. Franklin made everything official on Wednesday with his closest supporters by his side.
Franklin became a dominant player this year for the Gators under head coach Kelvin Carter, averaging over 15 points per game and leading VHS to a 28-4 record. Franklin had several highlights in his senior year, including helping VHS make a comeback against Brandon and securing a win against Callaway, which was Carter’s 100th victory as a head coach.
“It made me feel like we did something special for our coach in that game,” Franklin said. “I think he’ll always remember us by that game.”
Along with being named VDN’s Basketball Player of the Year, Franklin was also named as Mr. Basketball in 5A, leading the Gators to one of their best seasons in the program’s history. .
Franklin has been playing basketball since the age of five, and all roads have now led him to college basketball with his scholarship signing. He chose Jones over offers from Hinds, Mississippi Valley State, Co-Lin, Holmes CC, and multiple other schools.
“I chose Jones because I know it’s going to be a smooth ride and they are going to make sure I’m all good, especially with my schooling,” Franklin said.
Franklin is the son of Tonya Dixon and Michael Freeman.
“I want to thank all of my family, friends, teammates and coaches, especially Coach Carter,” Franklin said.
