Vicksburg High School girl’s basketball team crush the Lady Vikes
Both the Lady Vikings and Gators played tough for the first half of their game today, but the Gators eventually pulled off a 68-36 victory.
The score stayed close in the first quarter of the game with the Gators ahead 12-11 at the end of the quarter. The second quarter of the match remained close as both team’s defense played impressively. At halftime, the score was 23-20 with Vicksburg winning.
The second half of the game is when all the scores really started happening. Vicksburg came out hot and stayed ahead for the rest of the game.
Tamiya Sims led the Vikings with 14 points as the Gators struggled to shut her down. Zy’Kerri Segrest put up eight points for the Vikings with most of her points coming from inside the paint.
Yakia Burn, who led the Gators with 18 points, was all over the ball during the game as she had no problem getting past the Vikings.
Vicksburg star Destiny Sims was quiet until she nailed a big three-pointer in the fourth quarter. Not long after, Sims put up another three-pointer and ended the game with 15 points, all scored in the fourth quarter.
Freshman Layla Carter for Vicksburg was in the action, too, dropping seven points. Carter is fresh off of a Little Six Championship from two weeks ago where the ninth grade Gators brought home the victory.
The Gators eventually won the game by 32 points with a score of 68-36.
