Vicksburg has experienced a 57 percent decrease in homicides in 2019 from the previous year.

Vicksburg Police recorded three homicides in 2019, down from seven in 2018, Police Chief Milton Moore said today in an emailed statement.

“One homicide is too many for any city to endure,” Moore said. “The Vicksburg Police Department will continue to do all it can to make this city as safe as it can be. We still have a lot of work to do.”

Moore went on to thank the District Attorney’s office, judges, law enforcement personnel and the public for their support and cooperation.

“I would also like to thank the local media outlets for working with the Vicksburg Police Department to keep the public informed and for getting our message out to the community,” he said.

“As members of the community, we all need to be proactive and take a stand. This community is our home and we should all get involved and work together to continue to improve Vicksburg.”
