Vicksburg Junior High donates $1,000 to Tots University Preschool in Rolling Fork
Vicksburg Junior High School students rallied together to raise a total of $1,000 to be donated to those in need at Tots University, the Preschool in Rolling Fork.
When Dr. Candy Thompson, Assistant Principal at Vicksburg Junior High School, heard about the efforts of Tots University to raise money for families of their students who lost everything during the tornado disasters recently, she saw a need she could help meet. “When I saw that, I said I have to help her; we have to help her,” said Thompson referring to Elaine Clay-Woods, owner of the preschool who posted about the need on Facebook.
Thompson consulted the PTO at VJHS about holding a Free Dress fundraiser to help with the cause. Thompson feels a unique connection to the community of Rolling Fork as she hails from there herself. “I just wanted to give back,” said Thompson.
It only took a week to raise the money, and the kids got to enjoy a little more freedom for their efforts. “The students pay $10 to wear free dress for two weeks,” explained Thompson. This is as opposed to their normal required uniforms.
On May 19th, the funds, in the form of two $500 Visa gift cards, were given to Elaine Clay-Woods owner of Tots Preschool to use for students in need. Thompson spoke highly of Clay-Woods with whom she graduated with back in 1992 stating, “She’s always doing so much for people in the community.”
