Vicksburg loves the news – over 5 million times in April

With the massive increase in the number of people at home due to the pandemic, we anticipated an uptick in the number of readers. We had no idea it would hit 5 million impressions in a single month.
This is Vicksburg, in Warren County, 47,000 or so people. We are blown away at how many people have turned to the Vicksburg Daily News to get their information.
As Vicksburg’s largest, most trusted and only locally owned newspaper, we humbly thank you for your support.
Ronni Mott is the editor of the Vicksburg Daily News. Her contributions and leadership are the main reason for our success. She has taken a local hack and made him credible, such as it is, while guiding the Daily News to be the most accurate source in the region for news.
Vicksburg’s Keith Phillips has a take on sports that you obviously love. Several of his stories are in the top 10 most read at the Vicksburg Daily News every single week. He consistently has his finger on the pulse of the community and especially the sports world. We can’t imagine the Vicksburg Daily News without Keith Phillips.
Grizzled Senior Investigative Reporter Tommy Parker is legendary in Vicksburg and knows the local news business better than anyone in the area. If you’re up to no good, fear him. He will expose you, and it doesn’t matter if you’re a petty thief or the CEO of a major corporation. The man is a force of nature.
Our dear Gordon Cotton has been “corn-teened” out on Campbell Swamp Road during the pandemic. The much celebrated Mr. Cotton has stories he is ready to share as soon as the worst has passed, and we feel comfortable exchanging papers with him. He submits his stories double spaced from his type writer. We’re not going to mess with tradition. The acclaimed writer and historian emeritus has given Vicksburg so much, including one of the most-read columns we’ve ever published: his take on the retirement of his friend and nemesis Charles Riles. We will republish that article for your reading pleasure.
Kami May has been involved full time with the United Way and their efforts to keep those most vulnerable in our community fed and safe during the pandemic. She is still contributing to the Daily News including the weekly feature “Those who keep us safe” in spite of her long days at the United Way. Just the other night she had the journalistic wherewithal to show up on the scene of an accident that involved a family member and saw the need to produce a live news report. That kind of inherent ability can’t be taught. If you’d like to help the United Way in their efforts you can do so from their website or call them directly at 601-636-1733.
Robyn Lea is perhaps the best known and least vile person in Vicksburg (inside joke). The ‘Coffee With” series has featured every aspect of life in Vicksburg and is an ongoing video documentation of life in the city during the modern age. She has shifted her efforts to story-time reading for children and young at heart adults racking up thousands upon thousands of views. Few people love and care for Vicksburg more than Robyn Lea. We are thrilled she associates her good name with us.
The Vicksburg Daily News team grew by one during April with the addition of Parker Waites as a summer intern. The already accomplished Mr. Waites has penned a couple of stories so far with more on the way, and we are honored that such a brilliant young adult would want to join our team. If Mr. Waites is any indication, we can assure you the kids are going to be alright.
If you’re a business looking to get your name or product recognized in the Vicksburg/Warren County area, the Vicksburg Daily News is the way to do it. Before you advertise with anyone make them show you the numbers.
The news business has been under attack in America for some time now. The fact that the Vicksburg Daily News continues to grow – 5 million !!! – while news organizations worldwide are down sizing and closing shop is a testament to your trust in us. We can’t thank you enough.
