In an announcement on social media this morning, Shawn Jackson shared that Vicksburg Mayor George Flaggs Jr. has endorsed her candidacy for the position of Warren County supervisor for the 3rd District.

“I am proud to endorse Shawn Jackson for Supervisor of District 3, ” Flaggs said. “She has the business experience and relationships to get things done for Warren County and the City of Vicksburg.”

Jackson faces 23-year incumbent Charles Selmon in a Democratic Party primary runoff next Tuesday, Aug. 27. Jackson defeated Selmon in the primary race Aug. 6,  and Jim Sturgis Jr. came in third; however, Jackson did not garner the needed 50-percent-plus-one-vote required by law to be declared the outright winner.

The winner of Tuesday’s runoff will face independent David Sharp in November.

This is Jackson’s second high-profile endorsement in as many weeks. Last week, Sturgis, her primary challenger and a Vicksburg Warren School Board member, also endorsed Jackson.
