The Vicksburg National Military Park is inviting volunteers to take part in its annual National Public Lands Day (NPLD) event on Oct. 2. While NPLD is Sep. 25, this year the National Military Park will be holding it’s volunteer event in October. From 8 a.m. to noon, volunteers will have the opportunity to work alongside park staff to provide cleaning for the headstones located within the National Cemetery.

Traditionally held on the fourth Saturday in September, NPLD is the nation’s largest public lands volunteer event. It is organized each year by the National Environmental Education Foundation in cooperation with the Department of the Interior, Department of the Army, and Department of Agriculture.

Due to COVID-19 guidelines, registration will be required. A limited number of spots are available. Further event details will be emailed after completing the pre-registration form.

Friends of Vicksburg National Military Park and Campaign will be providing lunch for those taking part in the event.

Regardless of vaccine status, masks will be required in all NPS buildings and on all forms of enclosed transportation. Additional details are available at www.nps.gov/coronavirus.
