Vicksburg native Alex Weathers’ dreams of becoming a football coach are beginning to come true. He just announced that he will be a student defensive-assistant coach at Alcorn State University.

Weathers, a former Warren Central High football player, has always dreamed of becoming a coach and he now has the chance to get plenty of training under Braves’ head coach Fred McNair.

Weathers met with McNair on Thursday at ASU while he went in for transfer orientation and got a glimpse of what his coaching future may hold.

“I really want to thank Coach McNair for the opportunity,” Weathers said.

Weathers is a 2018 graduate of WC where he played under Josh Morgan and went on to Hinds CC to play under Larry Williams.

“Coach Josh had a big influence on me and so did coach Williams and I look up to both of them,” Weathers said.

Weathers will join the Braves next month during fall camp and is excited to get plenty of experience coaching while completing his degree at ASU.

Weathers is completely determined to meet his goals in becoming the best coach he can be and VDN will be there to cover all of his future success.
