Vicksburg native Cookie Johnson has started a catering business — Cookie J’s Catering.

Johnson discovered her love for cooking while she was attending college at the University of New Orleans where she frequently cooked for her teammates on the basketball team.

She takes pride in making her clients happy, which makes the job of cooking more exciting.

“I love pleasing the people that I serve, and putting a smile on their face makes me happy,” Johnson said.

Being from the South, she mostly serves southern-style food, but she plans on catering to every food need of her clients.

“Anything anyone can think of, I plan on catering,” Johnson said.

Although she began cooking in college, Johnson’s passion for food began long before when she watched her grandmother making huge delicious meals.

“My grandmother cooked for the entire family which taught me to now cook big meals, and I invite my family to join,” Johnson said.

Cookie J’s Catering will prepare food for parties, weddings, corporate events — any function that requires good cooking. She recently catered her first event, a bridal brunch, and she already has two weddings scheduled for the new year.

Besides catering, Johnson sells meal plates two days a week which she posts on her Facebook page. For information on Cookie J’s Catering, send a message through that page.
