Vicksburg native Destiney Swartz entering her second year cheering at Alcorn
Vicksburg native Destiney Swartz is entering her second year as a cheerleader at Alcorn State University.
Swartz started cheering in the seventh grade at Warren Central Junior High School and continued throughout high school. At Warren Central High School she cheered under coaches Brittany Nichols and Erica Wilson. She graduated from WCHS in 2019.
Swartz always had a love for cheering on her schools’ teams and working closely with her fellow cheerleaders.
“I love the teamwork and fundamentals when it comes to cheering, and I look forward to excelling this season,” Swartz said.
Swartz grew up attending ASU football games with her parents who are big Braves fans. It helped her realize that Alcorn was the university she wanted to attend.
“I wanted to get the full HBCU experience,” Swartz said.
Swartz is a sophomore agriculture business major at Alcorn. She cheers under coach Kiwanis Barnes, and she set high standards for herself when it comes to cheering.
“My goal for this year is to get better and become the best in the SWAC,” Swartz said.
She will be back cheering on the football field Feb. 27, 2021, when the Braves start their football season against Alabama A&M.
