Vicksburg native Nick Anderson heads into his final collegiate year
Vicksburg native Nick Anderson is heading into his final collegiate football year at Tulane after making quite the name for himself as a Division 1 athlete.
Anderson had his breakout season in 2020 and managed to rack up 88 tackles before suffering an injury in 2021 which caused him to miss a few games.
“The first four weeks was tough with the hurricane coming in, then I got the call telling me that my little sister was in a bad car wreck, on top of breaking my fibula,” Anderson said. “It was an overall draining year but I’m ready to pick up where I left off. Having faith in God grew me as a person and I’m thankful for it.”
Despite the hardships and injuries, Anderson still managed to grab 56 tackles in 2021 and was recently named to the Phil Steele Preseason All-American Athletic team.
Anderson is now in preparation for his last ride with Tulane and feels another big season is approaching.
“I’m very excited and my mental approach to the game is much stronger,” Anderson said. I’m putting in a lot of work especially in the film room because I’m studying offensive line and expanding my knowledge because I’ll be all over the field this year covering slots and coming off the edge some.”
Although Anderson is destined for greatness as an individual player, he is very much team-oriented and a true example of a leader who wants his team to succeed.
“The main goal for this season is for Tulane to win a conference championship and I just want to do my part and pitch in at any position and help out with the younger guys,” Anderson said.
Before landing at Tulane a few years ago, Anderson was playing at Jones CC.
“The speed of the game and the talent was the same at Jones, but on the D1 level everyone is fast so once I made it to Tulane I began taking care of my body and losing weight and gaining muscle,” Anderson said.
After the 2022 season, Anderson will enter the 2023 NFL Draft. Many supporters will be tuning in to hear his name called in hopes they will see him playing on Sundays.
