Vicksburg PD have two juveniles in custody for a string of auto burglaries
The Vicksburg Police Department have two juveniles in custody in reference to the string of auto burglaries that occurred at Margaritaville Hotel and in the Washington Street area on Sunday, Jan. 12, 2020. One stolen firearm has been recovered.
The auto burglaries reported Sunday include:
- a call at 2:46 p.m. in the parking lot next to the Cottonwood restaurant, where the complainant stated that someone broke into her 2012 Toyota Camry and stole $50.
- Also, at 2:46 p.m., officers responded to The Daiquiri Hub, 1446 Washington St., where the complainant stated that someone broke into her 2017 Chevrolet Malibu.
- And, at 3:49 p.m., officers responded to Margaritaville, 1310 Mulberry St., where the complainant stated that a group of juveniles came inside Margaritaville and stole cereal, candy, potato chips, Carmex and juice. They then broke into her 2018 Toyota Corolla and stole a .380 caliber handgun.
In addition, on Saturday, Jan. 11, at 4:38 p.m., officers responded to Margaritaville in reference to an auto burglary. The victim reported someone smashed his driver’s side window and stole $4 cash and an Adidas gym bag from the back seat.
This investigation is on-going and further updates will be made when available.
The Vicksburg Police Department also responded to the following incidents from Friday, Jan. 10 through Sunday, Jan 12, 2020.
On Sunday, Jan. 12, at 7:59 p.m., officers responded to the 700 block of Beresford Street for a report of shooting into an occupied dwelling. When they arrived, the officers found numerous shell casings in the street and multiple holes in the front of a house.
On Sunday, Jan. 12, at 5:07 p.m., officers responded to 1 City Waterfront in reference to a stolen vehicle. The victim stated someone stole his 2010 Toyota Tundra.
Officers responded to two calls of residential burglaries.
- On Friday, Jan. 10, at 3:18 p.m. officers responded to the 1100 block of First East Street where the resident stated that someone broke into his home and stole a washer and dryer, and a barbecue grill.
- On Sunday, Jan. 12, at 9:22 a.m. officers responded to the 1100 block of Avenue C where the complainant stated that someone broke into his home and stole a DVD player, a VCR, VCR tapes, two heaters, two TVs and a portable CD player.
Officers responded to two calls of shots fired. Officers did not find any evidence of suspicious activity or shots fired in either case. The first call was Saturday, Jan. 11, at 8:09 p.m. in the area of Drummond and Realty streets. The second call was Sunday, Jan. 12, at 1:56 a.m., in the 3500 block of South Frontage Road.
