Vicksburg Police Chief considers tv show proposal to boost community cooperation with law enforcement
During a meeting with the Board of Mayor and Aldermen on Monday, Vicksburg Police Chief Penny Jones disclosed that she had received a proposal from Spoke Studios, a renowned producer of documentary-style shows that have won Emmy awards, to create a series on the police department using the “First 48” and “Cops” format. According to Jones, the city is not allocating any resources to the initiative.
“I think it’s a great opportunity for people to see my officers in the light of what they do every day, especially the detectives and I believe that it’ll bring a lot of publicity to Vicksburg,” said Jones.
Jones went on to state she believes it will help the “see something, say something” initiative.
“I think it would show that when we are talking about see something, say something,” began Jones. “I think people in the community will have an opportunity to see what we’re doing and say, ‘hey, I may need to start talking and telling things’.”
The production team visited Vicksburg and explored the historical areas of the city, displaying a keen interest in the region’s crime statistics. Jones hopes that the program will increase citizen involvement and cooperation with law enforcement in addressing criminal activity in the community.
