Vicksburg police are ramping up patrols in neighborhoods with shooting reports, according to Vicksburg Police Chief Milton Moore.

Authorities received numerous shots fired calls at around 1 a.m. Wednesday from the area of Drummond, Harris, Speed and surrounding streets. One caller said they observed several people dressed in dark clothes firing a weapon as they ran near Marshall and Speed Streets.

Chief Moore confirmed that officers were back in the area Wednesday morning as one Harris Street homeowner discovered that their house had been struck and shell casings were recovered.

Police patrols have been increased in the area. The public is encouraged to call 911 immediately if they hear gunfire. Anyone with any information is encouraged to contact the Criminal Investigation Division of the Police Department.
