Vicksburg police make a drug arrest; report multiple burglaries and car thefts


An officer with the Vicksburg Police Department arrested a man for possession of methamphetamine Saturday
At 7:47 a.m. June 13, the officer stopped a 2008 Honda Accord on U.S. Highway 61 South for a tag violation. He initially arrested Steven Sanders, 28, on local warrants; however, a search revealed approximately 0.77 grams of methamphetamine in one of his pockets.
Sanders appeared before Judge Angela Carpenter Monday, June 15, 2020, in Vicksburg Municipal Court on a charge of possession of methamphetamine. Carpenter bound him over to the Warren County grand jury on a $40,000 bond.
The VPD also reported the following incidents Saturday and Sunday, June 13, and 14:
On Sunday, at 7:49 a.m. officers responded to Red Dot Storage, 3434 Wisconsin Avenue, about a burglary. The complainant reported someone stole a Queen bed with mattress, two nightstands valued at $750, an antique utensil and an antique flatware set valued at $400.
Saturday at 10:10 p.m. an officer was flagged down near the intersection of Clay and Washington streets by a victim who stated an unknown male stole an iPhone 11 Pro with the case off one of the downtown benches. The reported value of the phone is $999 and the case $40. The value of the items makes the crime grand larceny.
Sunday at 10:43 a.m. officers responded to a residence in the 1600 block of East Avenue because of a residential burglary. The victim reported someone stole a 50-inch LG television, a mini refrigerator, jewelry, a .22-caliber Remington rifle, a Black Hawk tactical rifle, syringes and dog medication valued at $5,000.
Officers responded to three incidents of auto theft on Sunday, June 14:
- At 7:30 a.m. someone stole a 2012 Ford Fusion from Whataburger, 3402 Halls Ferry Road.
- A 1981 Chevrolet Caprice valued at $6,000 was reported stolen from the parking lot at A to Z Towing, 941 U.S. Highway 61 North, at 10:21 a.m.
- A 2013 GMC Yukon Denali was reported stolen at 7:57 p.m. from an address in the 200 block of Grange Hall Road.
