Vicksburg Police Officer Faces Allegations of Assault, Harassment

VICKSBURG, Miss. – Allegations of assault and harassment have been made against a Vicksburg Police Officer. In a post made on Facebook this week, the person alleges that the officer has had numerous violent interactions with women.

Other members of the community also made additional posts concerning the situation and even more commented in support of the allegations, offering personal examples of their own experiences with the officer.

The Vicksburg Daily News reached out to Police Chief Penny Jones regarding the allegations. Jones confirmed that the police department is aware of situation and that the matter is under investigation.

“Our department is aware of the recent allegation involving one of our officers and takes all complaints seriously. Ensuring the safety and trust of our community is our top priority,” said Jones. “Please understand that every allegation must be thoroughly investigated to determine the facts. This process is essential to uphold fairness and accountability for all parties involved. At this time, the investigation is in its initial stages, and no conclusions have been reached.”

“We ask for the community’s patience and cooperation as we diligently work through this matter. Spreading unverified information can create unnecessary fear and confusion. We are committed to transparency and will provide updates as appropriate while respecting the integrity of the investigation.”

“Thank you for your understanding as we strive to serve and protect our community with the highest standard.”

Chief Jones also responded directly to one of the individuals who made claims towards the officer and encouraged them to file a formal complaint.

Chief Jones’ response:

I am writing to address your concerns regarding an incident involving one of our officers. Please know that we take such allegations seriously, and an internal investigation is already underway. While we respect your right to express your concerns publicly, I encourage you to also engage directly with our office to ensure we have all the necessary details to address the matter effectively. As of now, we have not received a formal statement from you, which is a critical part of the investigative process. I urge you to contact our office at your earliest convenience to provide your account of the incident. This will allow us to proceed with a thorough and fair review of the situation. Please contact our Internal Affairs office tomorrow at 11a. Speak with Capt J. Edwards Thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we work towards resolving this matter.
