Vicksburg resident Ty Pinkins announces candidacy to US Senate
Vicksburg resident, author, veteran and lawyer, Ty Pinkins, announced on Tuesday he will seek election to the United States Senate in next year’s Democratic Primary.
Pinkins stated he chose to announce his candidacy in order to get a head start on campaigning and plans to schedule a campaign event in Vicksburg in January.
“I am running because I am concerned about the direction in which our country is going,” said Pinkins in an announcement on Tuesday. “Throughout this campaign, I’m going to visit Missippians across our entire state so that; one, you can talk and share what’s important to you and your family; two, I can listen to what’s important to your family and your community; and three, together, we can do what’s necessary to move our state and our country forward.”
Pinkins comes from a poor family who struggled financially to make ends meet.
“We didn’t have much, but we had each other,” said Pinkins.
Pinkins states he is no stranger to hard work, having chopped cotton in his youth to help his family financially.
“I chopped cotton from sun up to sun down to help my parents pay the bills. Those cotton fields nearly broke me down,” said Pinkins in an announcement. “Now I realize how that experience actually built me up.”
Pinkins believes his life experiences have served to build him up and give him the perspective needed to succeed.
“It taught me the value of hard work and endurance. It prepared me for an incredible journey ahead,” said Pinkins.
Pinkins served in both the Obama and Trump Administrations with the White House Communications Agency and 21 years of experience as an army warrant officer.
