Vicksburg Salvation Army raising funds to replace its sign

The Vicksburg chapter of the Salvation Army is raising funds to replace one of its signs, which was damaged during a 2016 storm.

“We worry about everyone else first, and then we worry about ourselves,” said Major Janna Torgerson.

The damage to the sign is extensive, with one side completely gone and the other side cracked and broken with no lettering to correct or replace the message.

“It’s important that people know where we are and that we are open for business, hence the need for a new sign that will catch people’s attention,” Torgerson said.

The cost to replace the sign is estimated at $7,000. The organization has received a donation of $2,500 from BancorpSouth, Torgerson said, leaving another $5,000 to be raised by mid-September when the focus goes to holiday fundraising.
