Second Saturday is back, and the plan for May 9 has been announced.

After cancelling the popular downtown event in March and April due to COVID-19 restrictions, on May 6, Vicksburg Second Saturday announced on its Facebook page that plans were in the works for a virtual Second Saturday with streaming live music and an online raffle.

“Second Saturday is one of the programs that the Chamber supports,” said Pablo Diaz, president of the Vicksburg Chamber of Commerce.

The Second Saturday committee had numerous Zoom meetings to talk about the future of the events.

“We were not going to wait for over two months,” Diaz said. “If it went on into May, we decided to allow the people that liked attending Second Saturday to come and join online.”

This Saturday’s events will be live streamed from Vicksburg Second Saturday Facebook page. The lineup for music is:

  • Patchwork: 3 to 4 p.m.
  • DJ HD: 4 to 5 p.m.

The event will offer art programs for parents to access through Facebook including the Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation’s Mother’s Day Arts and Craft event with Karen Biedenharn.

There will also be an online raffle. To enter, folks answer questions Vicksburg Second Saturday asks in the comment section. Winners will be drawn Monday. Prizes include:

  • “From the Kitchen to Cyprus House” a cookbook courtesy of Lorelei Books
  • A $50 Downtown Doller card to be used at any downtown store courtesy of Vicksburg Mainstreet
  • A BBQ Dinner courtesy of Tim’s Smoke House

The Second Saturday committee is working hard to supply entertainment for the community.

“We do care a lot about Second Saturday, and we want to make sure the community enjoys it,” Diaz said.
