Vicksburg softball team wins World Series in Texas

Vicksburg softball team the River City Diamonds won the FASA 12U World Series in a tournament earlier this month.
The team consists of 11- and 12-year-old girls from the Vicksburg area who play under head coach Jimmy Grace. The River City Diamonds traveled to Longview, Texas, for the tournament after working hard for a month to prepare.
The Diamonds won the championship game in a 10-9 extra inning victory over the Extreme Heat.
”I am proud of all the girls and the parents who who helped out this season,” coach Grace said. “ I want to thank Joe Graves and Alex Gun for letting us use their fields to prepare as well, and Shondell Lockridge and Eric West who stepped in to help.”
Many members of the River City Diamonds had a standout performance in the tournament which helped the team bring home the championship.
“Jordan and JaMia Grace went 10 for 13 far as hitting, and Amari Johnson went 9 for 13 far as hitting,” Grace said. “Outstanding defense from everyone on the field. Zion Harvey knocked in the winning run with two outs to score Kennadi Cole to win the World Series. We had a lot of two-out hits to score runs in this tournament.”
Since the COVID-19 pandemic hit, the Diamonds have not had as many chances to play as usual, but they were able to travel and show off their skills in the World Series where they had a 5-1 record.
