Thursday, August 15, Vicksburg will cut the ribbon on its newest multi-use park at the corner of Washington and Grove streets in the historic downtown area.

The centerpiece of Washington Street Park is a statue honoring five people who Vicksburg Mayor George Flaggs Jr. says have made “giant contributions to Vicksburg and its progress”: former state Sen. Grey Ferris, civil rights activist Lee Willa Miller, attorneys Landy Teller and James Winfield, and beloved Vicksburg resident and murder victim Sharen Wilson.

The dedication program starts at 6 p.m., with entertainment provided before and after the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
