Vicksburg to honor civil rights icons Medgar and Myrlie Evers

On June 4 at 10 a.m., Vicksburg Mayor George Flaggs, Jr. and the City of Vicksburg will host the Voices of Courage and Justice Honoring Medgar Evers & Vicksburg native, Myrlie Evers.

The program will be held at the Artis T. Williams, Sr. City Auditorium located at 901 Monroe Street, Vicksburg, Mississippi.

Vicksburg Mayor George Flaggs, Jr. along with other local dignitaries and community members will open the event with greetings. The keynote speaker of the program is the first African American Mayor of Vicksburg and former NAACP Field Director Robert M. Walker. Mrs. Myrlie Evers and the Evers family will be presented with a plaque in their honor.

At the conclusion of the program, a caravan of justice will take program attendees on a tour through significant areas of Mrs. Myrlie Evers’ childhood.
