The Vicksburg-Warren School District is informing parents and guardians about a free vaccine event which students and their families can take advantage of.

The event, Youth Vaccination Day, is available for students age 12 and older and their families. Parents or guardians must be present for their child to receive the vaccine. First, second and booster doses are to be offered.

The vaccine distribution will take place Sep. 25 at 9 a.m. through 3 p.m. at the Vicksburg Commons Shopping Center at the Former Gap Outlet Store located at 4000 South Frontage Road. Those wishing to take part are asked to register ahead of time.

Those who do not have or cannot locate their child’s vaccination card can contact the Mississippi State Department of Health at 601-636-4356.

For anyone wanting to receive their second dose, if the first vaccine shot was administered on or before Sep. 4, eligibility for a second dose is likely. Boosters may be eligible for those who received their second dose more than 28 days ago.

The vaccination event is encouraged but optional for students. It is advised that children do not take over the counter medicine before receiving the vaccine to reduce the chance for side effects.
