Vicksburg Warren School District clarifies modified school reopening plan

The Vicksburg Warren School District Board of Trustees voted unanimously Wednesday to postpone the start of the 2020-21 school year to Monday, Aug. 17, 2020. The originally scheduled start date was Friday, Aug. 7, 2020. The decision to move the start of school was based on the growing concerns about safely opening schools due to the delayed delivery of important personal protective equipment for students and staff.
The Board first approved back-to-school plans on July 14 allowing families to choose in-person instruction or distance learning (virtual) for their student(s). Families will continue to have the options as outlined in the original plan and both options will begin on August 17. District and individual school plans can be viewed at www.vwsd.org/reopen.
The board also made the following adjustments in the 2020-2021 school calendar:
- Staff professional development days on Nov. 2, 2020, and Jan. 4, 2021, have been moved to Aug. 13 – 14, 2020. Students will attend school on Nov. 2 and Jan. 4.
- Fall break cancelled – students will attend school on Oct. 9, 2020 and Oct. 12, 2020.
- Winter break cancelled – students will attend school on Feb. 12 and Feb. 13, 2021.
Please see the calendar below for additional information. As always, the VWSD remains committed to the safety and well-being of its students and staff and looks forward to welcoming students back on Aug. 17, 2020.
