Vicksburg YMCA hosts grand opening celebration after upgrades

(VICKSBURG, MISSISSIPPI) The Chamber Ribbon Cutting and Business After Hours hosted at the Vicksburg YMCA’s flagship location will begin at 5 p.m. on Thursday, August 12 at the Golding Family – Purks YMCA, 267 YMCA Place.

The event will showcase the Y’s new facilities of the campus. The Vicksburg YMCA expansion plans included expanded childcare service, more youth sports, a multipurpose facility, expansion of the fitness center and updated parking.

“We will be forever grateful to the hundreds of people who contributed time, talent and treasure to make this project a reality,” said Ken Rector, Vicksburg YMCA Capital Chairman. “We believe our renovated and expanded flagship facility will contribute immeasurably to the physical and spiritual quality of life in our community for many years.”

In addition to the grand opening celebration which had previously been postponed due the COVID-19 pandemic, the Vicksburg YMCA has announced a membership promotion that offers an only $1.25 joining fee which is reminiscent of the first years of the Vicksburg YMCA.

The Vicksburg YMCA serves over 20,000 people annually and has almost 4,500 members. The Y has offered over $147,000 in financial assistance. The Vicksburg YMCA maintains three facilities- Golding Family-Purks Center, Wilkinson Ver Beck Branch and Warner-Tully Camp.
