Vicksburg’s Martin “Trey” Brown defeated Bobby Taylor to earn a title fight
Vicksburg native Martin “Trey” Brown earned a Lightweight Title fight Thursday night after defeating Tupelo native Bobby Taylor in a five round bare knuckle fight.
Taylor and Brown went at it hard from the start but Brown was able to land a couple of punches. As the final seconds of the first round winded down, Brown gave Taylor a nasty overhand right for one of three knockouts.
Going into the second round, Brown gave his competition a couple of right hand punches while Taylor tried to land some big hits, but seemed to wear himself out.
The third round would be even better for Brown as he continued handing pressure to Taylor and forcing him to take a knee midway through the round. A minute later, Taylor tried to give Brown a right hand but missed, giving the Vicksburg native a chance to feed him multiple right blows and knock Taylor out again while leaking blood on the floor.
Things moved slowly in the second round for Taylor. Brown managed to hit him again with a right hand late in the match.
The fifth and final round of the match was much like the rest of the fight, with everything going Brown’s way. Eventually time expired and he was named the winner by a unanimous decision.
Although Brown easily won the fight, he seemed disappointed at his performance as he is used to knocking his competition out early in the brawls.
“I’m kinda disappointed in my own performance because when you got lumber and you know you got lumber, he just told me not to come out gunning but I was like I know we can go home if I go on and sit on it and you know but it just wasn’t my best performance,” Brown said.
Now that Brown has gotten past Taylor, he has earned a title shot in 2022 against champion Luis Palomino who was in attendance Thursday night at the fight.
