Warren County Coroner Doug Huskey has identified the man found dead at a home on Jeff Davis Road Thursday.

A sheriff’s deputy found Gary Micheal McAlpin, 50, already dead when he arrived on the scene. Husky sent his body to the Mississippi State Crime Lab for autopsy.

Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace says the investigation is continuing Friday into the circumstances surrounding the death.

At 5:07 p.m. Thursday, Deputy Thomas McBride radioed Vicksburg Warren 911 that several people had flagged him down on Jeff Davis Road stating that an acquaintance had been shot. McBride went to the residence at 6655 Jeff Davis Road and found the victim cold and unresponsive.

Subsequently, several sheriff’s patrol units and investigators responded to the scene along with Sheriff Pace. Numerous shell casings were found and marked as evidence in the yard.

Pace said that McAlpin has lived in Warren County for some time, and that he has family in Magee, Mississippi, and Missouri. He said interviews with area residents and others are ongoing Friday.

He encourages anyone with information on the shooting to contact the investigations division of the Sheriff’s Office at 601 636-1761 or Crime Stoppers at 601 355 TIPS.
