A video being widely circulated on social media appears to show a Vicksburg Police officer using excessive force while arresting a citizen.

The video, posted by a person named Yolanda Lumpkin, shows John Dolley standing with his hands behind his back awaiting arrest. A Vicksburg Police officer, identified by Chief Jones as Eddie Colbert, is shown roughly handling Dolley and throwing him to the ground. You can hear the sound of the officer slap-grabbing Dolley. After Dolley is on the ground the officer is seen hovering over them in an intimidating stance. The officer seems to walk away but comes back and drops his knee forcefully on the back of Dolley, who is on the ground. The officer then yells at a bystander who is telling the officer to lessen his aggression.

The Vicksburg Daily News reached out to Vicksburg Police Chief Penny Jones for a response to the video. Chief Jones stated, “We’re going to investigate as we should and address it accordingly.” The Chief went on to say her office will do a complete statement on the event shortly.

Mayor George Flaggs, Jr. also commented on the video, saying “I have been informed but have not reviewed the video.  I stand behind Chief Jones and her handling of the situation, and as mayor of Vicksburg I assure you it will be investigated to the utmost.”
