Vikings are District Champions after crushing Callaway 45-6
Vicksburg, Ms –Warren Central High School football team are now the district champions for the second consecutive season after defeating Callaway 45-6 on Friday night. The Vikings improved to 6-3 and 4-0 in district play after Friday’s win.
WC got on the board late in the first quarter when Eric Collins Jr. ran in an 11-yard touchdown. Jonah Artman kicked the successful extra point to put the Vikings up 7-0.
The Viking defense came away with multiple stops as De’Kasei Crump provided excellent coverage. On the first play of the second quarter, Aden Green ran for a 20-yard touchdown while Artman’s extra point gave WC the 14-0 lead.
As WC’s defense continued to dominate, Callaway was forced to punt as Ricky Neal ran 34 yards to the 1-yard line. Greer scored from a short run to put the score at 21-0. Just before halftime, Artman got to show off his leg strength as he knocked down a 43-yard field goal as the Vikings went into halftime up 24-0.
Coming out of halftime, Larry Reynolds Jr found his way into the end zone after a scoop and score which only helped put the game out of reach with the Vikings leading 31-0.
Late in the second half, WC forced a running clock after Nash Morgan dropped a snap but picked it up and ran to the far side of the field for a 5-yard touchdown. He also connected with Maddox Lynch on two passes during that drive as they led 38-0.
Callaway found themselves on the board after an 80-yard run. It wouldn’t take WC long to respond as Fred Mixon scored from an 11-yard run to give the Vikings the 45-6 win.
WC will travel to play Columbus in their season finale on Thursday as they proudly stand as back-to-back district champions.
