At the start of every school year, Vicksburg High School and Warren Central High School host an event to introduce their upcoming athletic teams. The events, titled “Meet the Gators” and “Meet the Vikings”, serves to shine the spotlight on the athletes and kick start school spirit. This year, however, there have been some concerns regarding the fact that the Vicksburg Junior High athletes would not be attending their respective “Meet the Gators” event, despite Warren Central Junior High being part of “Meet the Vikings”.

Vicksburg Daily News received questions from concerned parents as to why Vicksburg Junior High School would not be allowed to participate in “Meet the Gators”.

We reached out to the school district in an attempt to shed some light on the reasoning behind the decision. Christi Kilroy, spokesperson for the district, got back in touch with us and explained the Junior High Gators will be hosting their own event, apart from the high school.

“Vicksburg Junior High school will host their own Fall Meet the Gators event on Aug. 9 at 6 p.m. in their gym. VJHS has chosen to do their own event so they have the opportunity to individually recognize students and their participation in fall sports/activities,” stated Kilroy in an email.

Meet the Gators and Meet the Vikings are held before the season begins and before their first game in August.
