VPD arrests a man with a stolen handgun, takes identity theft report

Officers with the Vicksburg Police Department arrested Xavier Anderson, 24, of Vicksburg, shortly before 9 p.m. Thursday, July 23.

E-911 received a call about people shooting guns in the area of Stout and Yazoo streets Thursday. Responding officers encountered a brown car on Army Navy Drive with the back window shot out and the two occupants changing a flat tire. Anderson was one of the occupants.

The officers recovered two handguns: a .40-caliber Glock and a .40-caliber Smith & Wesson. The Smith & Wesson had been reported stolen from a residence July 3.

Anderson appeared in Vicksburg Municipal Court Friday before Judge Angela Carpenter charged with possession of a stolen firearm. Carpenter bound him over to the Warren County grand jury on a $15,000 bond.

In an unrelated incident Thursday, officers took a report at the police department at 7:41 p.m. The victim stated a family member had used the victim’s identity to obtain an unemployment debit card, taking $11,000.
