VPD arrests woman for hitting her son with her car

Vicksburg police arrested a woman Monday night for aggravated assault after she hit her 13-year-old son with her car.
Officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Williams Road around 9:30 p.m. Monday for a motor vehicle accident with injuries. When they arrived, the officers found a 13-year-old male lying in the street after being struck by a car. Another young man, 20 years of age, was also struck and suffered minor injuries.
The two young men had been fighting in the street, and the mother of the 13-year-old, Katherine Upshire, 36, attempted to break up the fight by striking the older man with her car. He dodged out of the way, and she struck her son instead.
The 13-year-old was transported via ambulance to University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. His condition is not known at this time.
The intended victim was treated at the scene.
Officers arrested Upshire for aggravated assault. Her initial appearance in Vicksburg Municipal Court is scheduled for Tuesday, June 2.
