VPD update for Aug. 26: theft, grand larceny, and updates on shooting and fatal accident

On Aug. 26 at 8:11 a.m., the Vicksburg Police Department responded to a call of theft from a vehicle. The theft took place on Cline Street and the thief allegedly took a book bag containing $750 in cash, several debit cards, an iPad, a camera and other items. The victim did not have serial numbers for any of the items.

The same morning the VPD also responded to a grand larceny call at 8:14 a.m. at Stauts Automotive, 3660 Highway 61 South. The business owner reports that the perpetrator stole nine catalytic converters. The nine converters ranged in value from about $287 for a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee to $1,500 for a ’98 Chevrolet Silverado. 

At 9:48 a.m., a call was made to the VPD regarding a four stolen vehicles at Cannon Toyota, 4401 Frontage Road. While doing inventory Cannon sales representatives realized the vehicles were missing from the lot and reported the thefts.

Yesterday at 10:46 a.m., a storage shed owner contacted VPD with allegations that her shed located at 3040 Indiana Ave., had been broken into. The owner is unsure what items are missing from the shed.

A drive by shooting was reported to the VPD Aug. 26 at 9:58 p.m. on the 200 block of Starlight Drive. Officers located multiple .45 caliber shell casings in the middle of the street and a damaged silver 2003 Honda Civic. The vehicle was parked in a driveway and had one bullet hole in the window. Officers reported three bullets in the front door of a house on Starlight Drive and one bullet entering near a bedroom window. VPD states that no injuries were reported. This case is currently under investigation.

Vicksburg police have released the name of the victim of Friday’s fatal accident on North Frontage Road near the Merit Health River Region west campus. The death of Regina Hunt, 38, of Roxie, Miss., has been ruled an accident. Hunt was struck by a car around 10:30 p.m. and pronounced dead at the scene.
