Oct. 18 – 22 is National Bus Safety Week. The Vicksburg Warren School District transportation team will end this important week with a bus parade and celebration at Sherman Avenue Elementary School on Friday 2:30 p.m.

While the school bus is the safest way to travel to and from school, children still need to be careful as they get on and off the bus. Motorists must also be reminded to take extra care around school buses and to follow all state traffic laws regarding school buses.

Sherman Avenue students will learn about bus safety this week and how to use caution when approaching and boarding a bus and what to do when they are on the bus to help keep everyone protected. Activities will conclude on Friday with a spirited school bus parade led by the Warren County Sheriff’s Department and featuring VWSD buses and their drivers.

Students will display posters and cheer as the drivers pass. “We like to make learning fun and support our drivers at the same time,” said Transportation Director, Robert Bass. “This learning is important because it can save lives.”
