VWSD coaches must submit a plan before returning to practice

Vicksburg-Warren School District coaches must submit a return-to-play plan by Tuesday, May 26, to begin practices or hosting tryouts.

The plans must provide information on how they will follow guidelines laid out by the Mississippi High School Activities Association and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. VWSD Superintendent Chad Shealy and the school board will review each team’s plan Thursday.

Some teams are set to begin tryouts next week, as the MHSAA voted to let schools resume practice June 1, but that date is now pushed forward to the week of June 22 to give coaches time to submit a plan and have it approved.

Statewide, workouts at schools were approved to help players get back in shape, so most of the drills will mostly likely include conditioning workouts.

School sports were cancelled in mid-March due to COVID-19, and the school district has taken all precautions to not spread the virus.

Athletes temperatures will be checked before they enter their workout facilities next week and exercise equipment must be sanitized on a regular basis.
