Former Warren Central quarterback Fred Barnum Jr. will be in competition for the the starting spot at Mississippi Valley State University once the summer practices begin.

The 2020 season will be Barnum’s first season at MVSU after transferring from Jones Community College where he led the Bobcats to a 7-3 season last year. He threw for 1,342 yards and 11 touchdowns leading the team in passing last season, which caught the eye of MVSU.

Barnum committed to the Delta Devils in December 2019 after receiving a scholarship to further his playing career.

Now that senior Dejerric Bryant has finished his last season at quarterback for MVSU, Barnum comes in at the right time to fight for a starting position. The Delta Devils haven’t started practices yet due to the coronavirus, so once everyone is clear to play, Barnum will have the chance to show what he is made of.

Barnum will go in to this season as a junior with great running and throwing ability. He has a real talent for getting away from defenders and getting the ball to an open receiver,  which is what makes him so talented.

Barnum graduated from Warren Central in 2018, where he led the Vikings to 9-4 record in the fall of 2017.
