Warren County Administrator John Smith resigns

Warren County Administrator John Smith announced his resignation yesterday, Dec. 16.

Smith has held the position for over a decade, and his resignation follows a lengthy hospital stay. Smith, along with three incumbent supervisors, will step down Dec. 31, 2019.

Smith also served as auditor for the City of Vicksburg for 18 years.

The Warren County Board of Supervisors, which will be inaugurating four new supervisors in January, plans to appoint the county administrator, board attorney, county road superintendent and county engineer.

The transition for the new supervisors could be a difficult one as only incumbent District 2 Supervisor William Banks held his seat in the November elections. Smith would have eased the transition for new supervisors with his institutional knowledge of county procedures and politics.
