Warren County COVID-19 cases top 400; statewide over 26,000
Monday, the Mississippi State Department of Health reports another 11 new COVID-19 cases in Warren County, bringing the cumulative number of cases in the county to 409. The county’s death toll is 17.
Deaths in the county include eight residents of Heritage House Nursing Center. As of Thursday, June 25, MSDH reports that Belmont Gardens is the only nursing home in Warren County under investigation for an active COVID-19 outbreak.
Statewide, MSDH reports 675 new COVID-19 cases Monday, bringing the total cumulative confirmed cases in Mississippi to 26,567.
MSDH reports that 20 Mississippians died of COVID-19 statewide Monday, bringing the total number of deaths in the state to 1,059. Nearly half of the state’s deaths, 516, were people in long-term care facilities. The state’s mortality rate of deaths to confirmed cases is about 4%.

Deaths and new cases were reported as of 6 p.m. Sunday, June 28. MSDH usually reports new statistics on the COVID-19 coronavirus each day based on the previous day’s testing and death reports.
MSDH has estimated the number of people who can be presumed recovered from COVID-19 in Mississippi. That number is 19,388 through Sunday, June 28. This figure is updated weekly. It represents about 73% of the cumulative 26,567 cases reported as of Monday, June 29.
Based on the number of cases reported Monday, June 8, in Warren County (214), the estimated number of people presumed recovered in the county is 197, or about 48.2%, with 195 active cases out of the 409 cumulative cases reported Monday, June 29.
These estimates are based on MSDH’s guidelines for calculating estimated recoveries when hospitalizations are not known, using the number of cases 21 days ago, less known outcomes (deaths).
The primary metric concerning state health officials are the numbers of people hospitalized. Mississippians hospitalized for the virus as of 6 p.m. Sunday, June 28, is 717, including 513 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 204 people with suspected but unconfirmed cases. Of those with confirmed infections, 158 were critically ill and in intensive care units, and 93 were on ventilators.
