Warren County deer found to have Chronic Wasting Disease

A case of Chronic Wasting Disease has been found in a deer collected in Warren County and reported to the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks.

MDWFP announced on their website on Thursday, “The buck was reported to MDWFP in mid-December as potentially diseased given its drastically emaciated and lethargic condition. ”

MDWFP stated the white-tailed buck was found about 4 miles north of Vicksburg. The sample, according to MDWFP, is considered a “suspect positive” after initial testing. Final confirmation will be sought from the National Veterinary Services Laboratory in Ames, Iowa.

111 CWD-positive deer have been detected since Feburary of 2018 across nine counties. Anyone wishing to have their deer submitted for testing can do so at established freezer locations or participating taxidermists.
