The District maps for Warren County? It’s complicated…
The district maps for Warren County are being redrawn and are not complete.
In the June primary and runoff, the old districts and election precincts were used.
On May 25, 2022, the Vicksburg Daily News reached out to Sara Dionne, Chair of the Election Commission, to get a copy of the District map for Warren County. Dionne explained, “The BOS has approved a map of new Supervisor/Election Commission Districts and Justice Court/Constable Districts. Precinct lines and Polling Place locations have not yet been determined. That process will be in July, after the June elections. So we do not yet have complete county maps.”
Dionne went on to say, “The June 7 Primary Elections, and probable June 28 Republican Runoff are using the old district lines, as this does not affect the ballot voters receive. Talking about new lines at this point would indubitably cause voter confusion. The new Districts, Precincts, and Polling Places will be used in the November 8 General Election.”
When asked about the school districts, Dionne said, “The School District will make the decision whether or not to align the school districts to the new BOS districts. I believe they are working
through this process, but we have not received notification that a decision has been made.”
On Friday, after being prompted by informed Vicksburg Daily News reader Brian McGowan, we reached out again to Dionne to see if the maps were ready.
They are not, according to Dionne, “I do not have a final copy. The Election Commission met with CMPDD (Central Mississippi Planning and Development District) yesterday and drew proposed precinct lines, which will go to the BOS for review in a week. I am hoping the final map will be approved on August 1st, and shareable maps will be available after that.”
The Vicksburg Daily News will stay with this story and get the maps to you soon as the bureaucratic process is completed.
